There are two tabs available, one lets you lock USB port, while other lets you lock folders. Enabling the USB flash lock will not let your computer access any kind of USB memory drives. The change password option lets you change the password for extra security. To lock folders, navigate to the folders tab and select the folder which you want to be locked.

And without privilege elevation, there is no way for a non administrative user to write to the registry. There are several methods to gain this ability from a standard user account, however I would strongly suggest that you not attempt it, as if you don't already know how to do it, and your IT department is anything like mine, they WILL know, and you very likely WILL be fired. Even if you manage to get away with it initially, they WILL find out eventually.

USB Block is an easy to use data leak prevention software that prevents your data from being leaked out to USB drives, external drives, CDs, DVDs and other such storage devices. It blocks all such types of storage devices from accessing your data and in this way it prevents illegal copying, duplication, stealing and leakage of your data. It works by prompting for a password every time an unauthorized USB drive, external drive, CD, DVD, floppy disk or any such storage device tries to access your computer. Access to such devices will only be allowed if a valid password is entered. The program can also block network computers and non-system drives.

For Windows 2000 and XP you will need to modify the permissions of existing files to restrict the installation of USB drives. The two files are the and files, which are located under the %systemroot%\inf folder. To deny the installation of the USB devices, you need to modify the security on each file. To modify Block USB the security of each file, right-click on the file, then select Properties. In the Properties window, select the Security tab. Then, select the groupname that the user(s) belongs to (of which you want to deny installation of USB drives) and then select the Deny- Full Control permission, as shown in Figure 1.
